OGDEN – Clifton B. Larson, 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep, October 21, 1994 at home. He was born April 20, 1917 in Garland, Utah, a son of Ludvig and Minnie Lucinda Bingham Larson. Aug. 29, 1939, he married his sweetheart, Reva Toponce of Malad, Idaho in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Clifton graduated from Bear River High School, and received a B.S. and M.S. degree from Utah State University. He also did graduate work in Administration and Industrial Management from Utah State.
He was a life Certified Manufacturing Engineer, registered with the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He received the Outstanding Service Award in Technical Education from the School of Technology at Weber State University for the year 1974-1975.

Professor Larson fulfilled a two year assignment in Ethiopia, Africa for the U.S. Agency for International Development. While there, he helped developed [sic] a five million dollar Technical Education Building on Hailie Sallessie I University Campus.

Professor Larson touched many students’ lives during his teaching career, which began at Filmore High School. He joined Weber State University in 1943 where he was instrumental in developing the Manufacturing Engineering Technology Department. During his career, the school grew from a two year college to a four year university. After 41 years of service with Weber, he retired as Professor Emeritus.

He participated in professional organizations including SME, ASEE, UVA, and UIEA.

He was High Priest in the Ogden LDS 41st Ward. He faithfully served in many church positions including Bishop, High Councilman, and most recently as a Home Teacher. With his eternal companion, he served missions in the Ogden and Johannesburg, South Africa Temples.

Clifton enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and carpentry.

He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Always giving, expecting nothing in return. His family was his pride and joy.

He is survived by his loving wife Reva of 55 years; one son Dean C. Larson and wife Pat of Layton; 4 daughters, Kaylene Lott and husband Val of Ogden; Trudy Firestack and husband Tom of Lakewood, Colorado; Terry Thiel of Ogden; and Ila Jean (Jeanie) Hansen and husband Clay of Ogden; 18 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Two sisters; Mina Tillery of Brigham and Phyllis Daniel, Camden, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1994, at 2 p.m. at the Ogden 41st Ward chapel, 3254 Polk Ave. with Bishop Allen Hampton officiating.

Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 24th and Adams, Monday, 6 to 8 p.m. and at the ward Tuesday, 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Interment in the Ogden City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be sent to the “Clifton B. Larson Scholarship Fund”, Weber State University, Development Office, Ogden, UT 84408-1008.
