Chester C. Hill

HILL, CHESTER C., September 13, 1921 – December 18, 2006

Chester C. Hill, 85, died December 18, 2006 at Garden Terrace Life Care Center in Salt Lake City. He was under the care of Affinity Hospice at the time of his death.

Chester was born September 13, 1921 in Stone, Idaho to William Martin and Ruth Sparks Hill. He grew up in the Stone/Holbrook area and graduated from Malad High School. He then moved to Utah and began work at Hill Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic, a career that would last over 30 years.

In 1945 Chester married Hazel Matthews in the Logan LDS Temple and together they became the parents of three boys. Hazel died in 1954. In 1955 Chester married Maxine Taylor Bleak, a widow with two young boys. Chester and Maxine added two girls to their family and enjoyed many happy years traveling in their motor home with their grandchildren. Maxine passed away in 1987. In 1989 Chester married Virginia Role Davis and together they served an LDS mission in the New Mexico/Albuquerque Mission. They also enjoyed traveling and doing family history work. Virginia died in 2003.

Chester was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings throughout his life, including High Priest Group leader and member of the Sunday School Presidency. He was a member of the SALMAS Study Group.

His family will miss his leadership and steadiness, and all who knew him will miss his dry wit and endless jokes. Even in his final days, Chester endeared himself to his caregivers as his personality was able to shine through his physical infirmities.

Chester is survived by four sons: David (Bev) Hill of Riverton; Dennis (Betty) Bleak of Sandy; Allan (Elizabeth) Bleak of Pleasant View, Colorado; Justin (Chris) Hill of Glendale, Arizona; two daughter: Marilyn Hill of Salt Lake City; Hilly (Michael) Baird of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a daughter-in-law: Mary Ann Hill of Ogden, Utah; 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four brothers and a sister, as well as Virginia’s six children. Preceded in death by his wives; a son, Brent Matthews Hill; a brother and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 22 at Crystal Heights 1st Ward. The family will visit with friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenkins Soffe Mortuary and also on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Providence, Utah.
