Charles Bryan Gardner

GARDNER, CHARLES BRYAN, March 8, 1896 – December 5, 1970

Charles Bryan Gardner, age 74, died at Oneida Hospital of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mr. Gardner was born March 8, 1896 at Carrol County, Virginia, a son of James E. and Elizabeth Martin Gardner. He married Ada May Bertschi on June 1, 1920 at Vancouver, WA. He was a well drilling contractor and a veteran of World War I.

Surviving are his widow and a son, Bernard H., Malad; a daughter, May Irene Gardner Halliburton, Hayward, Ca; seven grandchildren; a brother, Edgar Gardner, Vancouver, WA. One son, Bryan, preceded him in death.

Bishop Gordon Crowther officiated at the funeral services at Benson Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Goodier offered the family prayer; the invocation was offered by Reed M. Smith, and the benediction by Paul H. Mills. Speakers were Pres. Merlin Bastian and Bishop Crowther, who read the life sketch. Eldon Corbridge presented a vocal solo, and Leora Brown and Foster Ipsen, a duet, accompanied by Iris Barker.

At the Malad City Cemetery, Bishop Colen H. Sweeten, Jr. offered the dedicatory prayer. Flowers were arranged by members of Acacia Chapter, order of Eastern Star, Ione Jones, Worthy Matron. Honorary bearers were WWI Veterans and American Legion Ernest w. Jones Post No. 65 providing the honor guard and military rites. Casket bearers were George Parry Ward, Carl Willie, Merlin Bastian, Reed Smith, Joseph May and Stanley Thomas.

Benson Funeral Home directed the burial.
