MALAD, Ida.–Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. for Mrs. Catherine Jones Palmer, 77, who died Sunday [Mar. 5, 1950] in a Malad hospital after a long illness.

Services will be held in the Malad Third Ward chapel. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, under the auspices of Bishop Joe Hughes. Friends may call at the family home Tuesday and Wednesday prior to services. Burial will be in the Malad Cemetery.

Mrs. Palmer and her husband received honorary degrees from the University of Idaho in June, 1949, when their fifth child graduated from that institution. Mrs. Palmer was the mother of eight children.

Born March 27, [29] 1872. In Malad. She was a daughter of Jenkin and Mary Jekins[Jenkins] Jones. She graduated from Brigham Young University and later taught school in Malad for several years.

Nov. 3, 1897, she was married to William H. Palmer in the Logan Temple.

An active member of her church, Mrs. Palmer had served as secretary of the Stake Mutual Improvement Association board for several years. She was a past president of the Malad Relief Society.

Surviving are her husband: three sons, and four daughters, W. Wendell Palmer, Blamarck[sic], N. D.; Ernest J. Palmer, Billings, Mont.; Jenkin Palmer, Malad; Mrs. Ella Eames[ Della Means], Boise; Mrs. Marie Petty, Swan Lake; Mrs. Viola Redford, Weiser; Mrs. Katherine Freud, Great Neck, N. Y.; a sister and a brother, Mrs. Margaret Jones and Thomas J. Jones, both of Malad, and 18 grandchildren.

Mrs. Palmer was born at Malad, March 29, 1872, a daughter of Jenkin and Mary Jenkins Jones. She received her early education in the Malad schools and later attended the B.Y.C. at Logan, Utah. After graduation she taught in the Malad schools until Nov. 3, 1897 when she was married to William H. Palmer in the Logan L.D.S. temple. An active church member, Mrs. Palmer served as secretary to the M.I.A. Malad stake board for several years. In 1912 she became a counselor to Mrs. Nellie Dredge in the First ward Relief Society and in 1914 she made president of the organization and served until 1918. She also helped to office this organization in later years and was active in the leadership of the M.I.A. and other ward groups. Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, who observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1947, received honorary degrees at commencement exercises at the University of Idaho in June, 1949, in recognition of five family graduates from the school.

Mrs. Palmer was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Palmer Jones.

Survivors include her husband, seven sons and daughters, W. Wendell Palmer, Bismarck, North Dakota; Mrs. Della Means, Boise; Mrs. Viola Redford, Wesier, Idaho; Ernest J. Palmer, Billings, Montana; Mrs. Marie Petty, Swan Lake, Idaho; Mrs. Catherine Freud, Great Neck, N. Y.; Jenkin Palmer, Malad; eighteen grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Jones, Malad; and a brother, Thomas J. Jones, Malad.
