Daughter of Malad man killed in Nevada accident

A daughter of a Malad man, Mrs. Bonnie Read Shuman, was struck and killed at 1:40 a.m., Dec. 25th, as she attempted to cross Las Vegas Avenue (The Strip) to her parked car.

Mrs. Shuman was thrown about 200 feet by the vehicle operated by William Blick, 44, Los Angeles, who was charged with manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor, by Nevada Highway Patrol. Funeral services were held Dec. 29th at Las Vegas 30th Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Morgan D. Harris, a former Malad resident, officiating.

Mrs. Shuman, age 32, was born Dec. 16, 1939, at American Falls to L. Clifton (Cliff) and Mary May Read. She attended school at Rockland and moved with her family to Downey in 1955. In 1959, she was married to Richard Evans, Lava Hot Springs, and later divorced. She was married to Bill Shuman in Las Vegas and they were divorced. Mrs. Shuman was an accomplished horsewoman.

C.; Mrs. Gary (Sharyn) Shinney, Ogden L. Clifton Read Jr., James Spencer Read, both of Battle Mountain, Nev.; stepsister, Nancy Stone, and stepbrother, Kelly Stone, Las Vegas.
