Blanche Larue Deschamps Weston passed away peacefully at her home on March 3, 2010.
She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and grew up on a cattle ranch in St. John, west of Malad City, Idaho. She was the sixth of seven surviving children born to Mary Blanche and David S. Deschamps Sr.
She once said, “I used to ride my horse to school and now I have a computer and a cell phone. It’s a wonderful world.”
She was educated at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and completed her education at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where she received her BA in English with a minor in music.
She briefly taught high school English and then married the love of her life, George Weston, M.D. and spent many years as a Navy wife in Hawthorne, Nevada. She was then a crucial adjunct to a partnership of strength and love with George and her children in California.
She is survived by four children: Paula Lowery; Stephen Weston; Julienne Weston and Anna Sekera; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years and her dear daughter, Pamela Nylander.
Music was her passion. She was a talented and skilled pianist from age five. Her ability was legendary and she could sight-read any music. She played many years for the DLOC (Diablo Theatre Company, formerly Diablo Theatre Company/Diablo Light Opera Company) for performances and rehearsals. She was a strong proponent for the arts, but music and dance were always her favorites. She was also active in the Diablo Bonsai Club and her artistic hand shaped many beautiful trees.
She was a trusted friend and advisor to many and her wisdom and guidance will be sorely missed.
A memorial was held March 8, 2010 at Oak Park Hills Chapel in Walnut Creek, California.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society or to the Hospice of the East bay (webmaster@hospiceeastbay.org).
