Barbara Ann Harwood Walther passed away and returned to her Heavenly Father peacefully and suddenly at her home in Warrior’s Mark, Pennsylvania, On January 4, 2009, two days before her 61st birthday.
Barbara was born January 6, 1948 in Malad, Idaho to Owen McClellen (Barney) Harwood and Elizabeth Ann Wood. She spent her early years on the family ranch in Bull Canyon and Malad and was a graduate of Malad High School, class of 1966. After graduation she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and attended Stevens-Henager College and also worked as an elevator operator and later at Salt Lake Regional Hospital (formerly Holy Cross Hospital).
She married Gary Rasmussen and was later divorced, but not before having her first son. She later married Jack McCurdy and moved t the State College/Altoona area of Pennsylvania in 1971, shortly after the birth of her second son. Barbara and Jack divorced, leaving her to raise her three sons. In 2002 she married her current husband, Tom Walther, and has been happily married these past years.
She was employed at Centre Community Hospital and was looking forward to retirement next year and spending more time with her husband, Tom, children, and grandchildren. Barbara was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has served as a counselor in two Relief Society Presidencies, a teacher in both the Primary and Sunday School, and a visiting teacher. She has also enjoyed the past few years traveling the country to visit her sons and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Eugene Walther of Warrior’s Mark, Pennsylvania; sons: Kirk Ira (Sandra) McCurdy of Stockton, California; Troy J. (Stacy) McCurdy of Howard, Pennsylvania; Bradley Owen (Anne) McCurdy of Port Hueneme, California. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Randy (Jessie) Harwood of Payson, Utah; six grandchildren; two nephews, two nieces, two great-nephews, one great niece; and two aunts.
Services will be held January 8, at the State College Pennsylvania LDS 1st Ward, presided over by Bishop David Huff. She will be buried in the Oil City Cemetery in Oil City, Pennsylvania.
