Arthur Stayner dies in Las Vegas

Arthur Stayner, 91, Las Vegas, and a former Malad resident, died Saturday, Jan. 26, at his home.

He was born March 21, 1888, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Arthur Sr. and Elizabeth Chamberlain Stayner. He grew up and was educated in Salt Lake. When he was a young man his family moved to Malad and homesteaded a farm. He married Jane Thomas, September, 1908, in St. John. She died June 29, 1973.

He farmed for many years in the St. John area near Malad and also owned and operated farms in Fort Hall and Castleford near Twin Falls. In 1930, he went into the construction business and worked in Alaska, Australia, and Seattle. He was a Member of the LDS Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Theda) Rodgers, Rupert, and Mrs. Venna Hampton, San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers a sister; Kenneth Stayner, Gilroy, Calif.; and Richard Stayner, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Mrs. Sara Lund, Los Angeles, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 30, in the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home with Bishop Gene Edwards officiating.

Burial was in the St. John Cemetery.
