Malad’s oldest resident dies at age 101

Annie Evans Ripley, 101, Malad’s oldest resident, died Wednesday, January 31, 1979 at the home of her daughter Virginia, in North Field, Ohio.

She was born on October 5, 1877 in Malad. A daughter of W. W. and Mary Jones Evans. She married Alonzo Clifford Ripley on October 23, 1901 in Malad. She was a lifetime resident of Malad and had recently gone to live with her daughter in Ohio. She was a member of the LDS Church.

Surviving are two sons and two daughters; William Clarence Ripley, Magna; Grant Ripley, Ogden; Isabell Ripley, Los Angeles, California; Virginia Ripley, North Field, Ohio; eight grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services

Funeral services were conducted February 5th, 1979 at the Benson Funeral Home, Bishop Gordon Crowther, officiating.

Grant Ripley, son of the deceased, gave the family prayer at the Benson Funeral Home and the program included Marie Jones, prelude, postlude and accompaniment music; LeRoy Thomas, a close friend of the family, offered the invocation; Claren Gay Pendleton, granddaughter, presented an original poem, “My Grandmother.”

Three great-granddaughters, Sundee Gay, Shante’ and Julee Ripley, sung a vocal selection, Garth T. Ripley, grandson, was the speaker followed by remarks by Bishop Crowther. Helen Jones sung a vocal solo, Linda Kentch, great-granddaughter, played a piano solo; the services were closed by David Ripley, grandson, who offered the benediction.

All of the grandchildren with the exception of one great-grandchild attended the services.

Concluding Rites

Concluding rites were held at the Malad City Cemetery. Ronald Pendleton, grand-son-in-law, gave the dedicatory prayer.

Flower arrangements were cared for by friends and relatives. Casket bearers included Bud Evans, Robert Ripley, Larell Jones, Lynn Alder, David Ripley and Scott Kentch.
