NORTH, AMY CATHERINE, November 12, 1916 – June 8, 2004

OGDEN – Amy Catherine Robbins North, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away June 8, 2004 at the age of 87 at her home in the presence of her loving family. Amy was born on November 12, 1916 at Stone, Idaho, the youngest daughter of Hulbert Bross Robbins and Mary Ellen Catherine Jackson. She attended elementary school in Stone, Idaho and then lived with her oldest married sister, Jennie, in Ogden, Utah in order to further her education by attending Lewis Jr. High School.

At age 16 Amy left school in order to serve as a nanny back in Stone for her oldest brother’s four children when his first wife died of pneumonia shortly after the birth of his fifth child. Merlin was gone much of the time working at the Resettlement Camp North-East of Stone. It was a lot of responsibility for a teenage girl. Amy never returned to school, however, she did go back to live with her sister Jennie Wade Atkinson in Ogden and worked for the Scowcro Company sewing clothing on machines. After the clothing factory closed, she worked as a housekeeper.

At about age 18, she returned to Stone, Idaho where she met, dated and fell in love with Arnold Ray North. They were married April 12, 1938 in Ogden, Utah. Arnold joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a short time later their marriage union was sealed in the Logan LDS Temple for all time and eternity. Together, they became the parents of four sons, Gordon, Garry, Donald and Dean.

Together they owned and operated a small farm at Stone, Idaho and enjoyed country life. She always prepared great meals for the harvest crews. During those years, Amy helped deliver the U.S. Mail throughout the community of Stone. She also worked as a cook in the cafeteria at Thiokol.

In 1962, they sold the farm and moved their family to Ogden, Utah. Together they expanded and remodeled their home in Ogden.

During her lifetime, Amy witnessed much change and progress in the world. She grew up with horse-drawn power and no indoor plumbing. She witnessed the advent of electric appliances, black topped roads, television, air travel and cell phones. She loved good music and could play the piano. She was a very good cook and canned lots of fruits and vegetables from the family gardens. She was always very supportive to her husband and sons. She enjoyed mountain camping trips, vacation travel, and family reunions.

During her lifetime, Amy served in many different callings in all of the auxiliary organizations of the LDS Church. She was a very faithful and willing worker. She also served for a time as a temple worker with her husband. She was a great living example of the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Her sweetheart, Arnold, passed away at home very suddenly on August 31, 2000. They had been married for 62 years.

She is survived by her four sons, Gordon Arnold (Carol), north of North Ogden; Garry Lavon, north of Ogden; Donald Robert (Patty), north or Erda, and Dean Lamont (Celine), north of Ogden; along with two brothers-in-law, Dale Edward (Ethel), north of Longpine, Nebraska; and Howard Clarende (Ruth), north of Montrose, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents and all eight of her siblings and their spouses, two sisters-in-law, Doris and Leah and their spouses, along with one grandson, Dennis, and one great-grandson, Joseph.

Funeral services will be held June 12, 2004 at the Lorin Farr 2nd Ward Chapel in Ogden, Utah. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, Ogden, Utah.
