Alyce Jones, 76, of Malad and Reno, Nevada, passed away Monday, September 1, 1997 at her home. She was born July 14, 1921 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a daughter of Lyman D. and Mabel Evans Jones. She was raised and educated in Malad, was a graduate of Malad High School and later attended Business College in Boise. She worked for the Oneida County Grain Growers, retiring in 1975 as manager. She then moved to Reno, when she became director of the Redfield Foundation, Land and Trust, a position she held at the time of her death.
She was very active in community affairs and had served as President of the Malad American Legion Auxillary as well as a member of the Malad Area Chamber of Commerce.
While in Reno she had received various awards, including Honorary Associate of Arts Degree from the Truckee Meadows Community College, the President’s Medal from the University of Nevada, the Dean’s Award from the School of Medicine at the University of Nevada, and was voted the Most Outstanding Philanthropist in Reno for 1995.
She is survived by a brother, Tom (Eola) Jones of Malad; two sisters: Dawn (Lyle) Abbott of Sun Lakes, Arizona, and Jean Jones of Reno and Malad. Also surviving are one nephew and ten nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 1997 at 12 Noon in the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. Malad. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Thursday, September 4th from 7-9:00 p.m. for visitation and viewing. On Friday there will be no viewing prior to service. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
