Alta (Clarice) Barker Hansen

HANSEN, ALTA (CLARICE) BARKER – December 5, 1924 – February 6, 2006

FRUIT HEIGHTS – Our beloved wife, ,mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed away at age 81 at her home February 6, 2006 surrounded by her loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer and other illnesses.

Clarice, as she preferred to be called, was born in North Ogden on December 5, 1924 to Charles and Elizabeth (Bessie) Lee Barker, descendants of the Utah Pioneers. She was educated in the Weber County schools.

She married Denzil H. (Denny) Hansen in Malad, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past July in Fruit Heights, where they have resided for 38 years.

During WWII she worked in the Defense Industry and eventually retired from HAFB.

She and her husband had also lived in California, Florida, Idaho, and Arizona. After retirement she loved to travel, spending time in Yuma, Arizona until her illness.

She also loved to garden and most of all, spend time with her treasure, her grandchildren. Mother had a dry wit which will greatly be missed.

Surviving are her husband, Denny, daughter Margo (Russ) Taul, Layton; grandchildren, Lisa Ewing of Clearfield; Angelia Thurgood, Hans (Stacy) Thurgood of Layton, and Jacqueline (Dan) Eldredge of Biloxi, MS. She has six great-grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters, Vern Barker, Ruel (Kathren) Barker, Harrisville; Gilbert Barker, Ogden; Lorraine (Paul) Arvonen, Durham, CA and Arlene Likens, Kaysville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four half-brothers, two half-sisters and one brother, Floyd Barker, one sister Bernice Clawson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemebery.
