SHELLEY – Allan William Ashton, 70, of Shelley, died Monday, October 10, 1994, at his home in Shelley of cancer.

He was born February 6, 1924, at Woodruff, Idaho, the son of William Ashton and Elizabeth Allen. He attended schools at Woodruff and Malad, and graduated from Soda Springs High School.

During World War II he served in the Seabees at the Admiralty Islands, where he helped construct landing fields for the Air Force.

He married Millie Jane Hamp April 20, 1944, in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Grace and Pocatello. She passed away in 1980. He married Sarah Blodgett November 14, 1981 in Idaho Falls.

Following his service he was employed by Prudential Insurance Company for 23 years. During this time they lived in Pocatello. Following his marriage to Sarah Blodgett he moved to Shelley, where he, with his son owned and operated the Family Video Store until his retirement.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a stake mission, as elder’s quorum president, and as executive secretary to a bishop. He enjoyed videotaping family and personal histories. He enjoyed square dancing and photography. He gave free haircuts to the handicapped Deseret Industries workers.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Ashton, Shelley, four sons, Dennis Ashton, Cottonwood Falls, Kan.; Craig Ashton, Idaho Falls, Kerry Ashton, New York City, N.Y.; and Isaac Ashton, Shelley; two stepdaughters, Arlene Telford, Shelley, and Clida Waford, Salt Lake City, Utah.; a stepson, Tony Walters, Salt Lake City; two sisters, Mae Orison, Logan, Utah.; and Ruth Larson, Ogden, Utah; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and three sisters.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 13, 1994, at 11 a.m. at the Shelley LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Dee Rawson conducting. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. at the Nalder Mortuary. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello.

Funeral services for Allan William Ashton, 70, of Shelley, who died Monday, Oct. 10, 1994, at his home in Shelley of cancer, will be held Thursday, Oct. 13, 11 a.m., at the Shelley LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Dee Rawson conducting.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Mortuary in Shelley, and on Thursday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m.

Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetary, Pocatello, with military graveside rites by the combined Pocatello veterans’ group and auxiliaries: Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
