Alan Larry Larsen, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, after battling many illnesses throughout his life. He was 66 years old.
Alan was born in Malad, Idaho, in 1959 to Mary Beth Gleed and Larry Larsen. He graduated from Malad High School in 1978.
At the young age of 14, Alan began the hard work of running the family farm when his father lost his eyesight. With the help of his mother, Mary Beth, they continued the necessary day-to-day work of keeping the farm going. Those years of working side by side developed a lifelong, deep companionship between Alan and his mother.
Farming was more than a way of life for Alan—it was a part of who he was. He was the fourth generation of his family to work the land in Arbon Valley, Idaho, and he dedicated his life to caring for the family farm. He took great pride in the work, the land, and the legacy of his family.
Alan enjoyed many things in life, including snowmobiling, hunting, fast cars, and pushing snow. His love of hunting may have started with the desire to get the biggest buck himself, but over the years, the greatest enjoyment came from taking others along for the adventure. He loved giving people the wildest ride of their lives in his V8-converted 1930s Army vehicle—a machine that seemed determined to go through just about anything.
But above all, Alan loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a prank or a joke to keep those around him laughing. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family, and you could usually count on him needing a Diet Mountain Dew and some ketchup nearby.
Alan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He showed his love for the Savior through the way he served his neighbors, his community, and his family. His faith was reflected not only in what he believed, but in the way he cared for and helped those around him.
He is survived by his children, Wendy and Jared Cannon, Brenda and Greg Durgin, Jessi and Bryce Bingham, and Dustin and Cami Larsen; his sisters, Suzanne Carter and Roxanne Iverson; and his 13 grandchildren, who brought great joy to his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Beth and Larry Larsen, and his sister, Trudy.
Alan leaves behind a legacy of family, faith, hard work, laughter, and a deep love for the land he cared for so deeply. His memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Malad LDS Stake Center. Viewings will be held Tuesday evening from 7-8 p.m. and again prior to the service from 9:30-10:30. Burial will follow at the Malad Cemetery.
