Josie Darlene Thomas

Josie Darlene Thomas, age 80, of Malad, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 11, 2017.

Josie was born on July 31, 1937, in Downey, Idaho to Marjorie and Keith Hyde. Josie attended school in Downey.

Josie married Gordon ‘Sam’ Thomas of Malad in 1956. They resided in Utah at first then Twin Falls, Idaho where they settled and raised their four children. Sam owned and ran a Chevron Service Station for many years on Addison Avenue in Twin Falls. In 1979, Sam took a leap of faith and moved to Malad to be able to run the Thomas Family Ranch (in the family for over 100 years). Josie joined him in 1993, after he built them a house on the homestead. Josie enjoyed employment at the Dairy Queen in Twin Falls for 18 years and was known as the “cake lady”. When she moved to Malad, she said, I need to meet people so she took a job at Thomas Market, for 14 years and oh boy she met the whole town!

She was a loving mother and grandmother and people knew her as quite the jokester. She was a social butterfly, always making people laugh and admired by many as she always had to dress very stylish and accomplished by her jewelry and of course, her hair was so stylish! Josie thrived off of Christmas, making many treats and candies for everyone, and she was a expert counted cross stitcher and later a crochet guru, making all the great-grandchildren afghans.

Josie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam; her great-granddaughter Alexis Mogensen; her grandson, Josh Barnes and her sister, Jeralyn Austin. Josie is survived by her four children; Gordon K. Thomas (Kathy); Robert Brent Thomas (Pam); and Kathy Thomas Barnes, all of Twin Falls and Denise Thomas of Malad; her sister Maxine Nielson of Richland, Washington; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at noon in the Malad LDS Third Ward Chapel, 400 N. 200 W.
