Norma Evelean Wharton, age 88, died Sunday, July 17, 1994, at their home in Malad City, Idaho.

She was born August 21, 1905, in Clarksville, Arkansas, a daughter of James Samuel Jones and Alpha E. Adams Jones. Early childhood was spent in Clarksville, Arkansas, where she attended elementary school.

She married Olaf Auden Wharton on December 16, 1923, in Oark, Arkansas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on March 28, 1962.

They were blessed with two sons, Kenneth LaVaughn Wharton and James Everett Wharton.

She and her husband lived in Oark and Clarksville until they moved to Peoria, Arizona in 1935, where they resided until moving to Malad, Idaho in the spring of 1946.

She was an excellent seamstress, and worked doing alterations for the J.C. Penney and Evans Co-op Store. Her work became so well-known that many an individual came to her home for sewing and alterations.

She was an active member of the LDS Church after having joined in 1958; she served as visiting teacher and counselor to the Relief Society presidency. She attended the temple regularly when health permitted, and was instrumental in the genealogy work for family and ancestors.

She was a loving great-grandmother, grandmother and mother, especially manifested in her and Olaf’s care in their home for over 10 years for their adult son, Everett, who was stricken with multiple sclerosis. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by one son and his wife, Kenneth LaVaughn and Karen Wharton; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a special niece, whom she helped raise, Marie W. Francis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olaf, in 1992, a son, Everett, in 1983, and five sisters, Maude, Jewell, Ethel, Minnie and Vivian.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 21, 1994, at noon in the Malad LDS Fourth Ward Chapel, 200 W. 400 N., Bishop Wendell Smith officiating. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, on Wednesday, July 20, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Thursday at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
