DEWEYVILLE_Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Aleta May Wharton Nielsen Thompson passed away October 1, 2010 at home with her family following a long hard courageous and well fought battle with cancer. Aleta was born May 1, 1938 in Malad, ID to Verdie Estes and Clara Bogan Wharton. She graduated from Malad High School in 1956. She met her sweetheart Reed Owen Nielsen and they married September 19, 1958. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS temple November 21, 191. They lived and were blessed with two sons and two daughters in Portage, UT. After the death of Owen, March 20, 1980 she was blessed with the gift of a second sweetheart, Jon Z. Thompson. They married January 19, 1985. With the addition of Jon’s three daughters, they became the parents of a family of six.
Aleta was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in numerous church callings. Her solid testimony influenced many. She had a great love for Humanitarian service.
Aleta was an amazing wife and mother. Her talents were many. She enjoyed handiwork, yard-work, traveling and was an avid AGGIE fan. She was loving and supporting grandma. Recently her greatest joy has been spending time with her great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Jon; children: Jeri)Kevin) Garn, Fielding, UT; Natalie (Ted) Kay, West Point, UT,; Kris (Boyd) Udy; Promontory, UT; Keeley (Van) Hardy, Tremonton, UT; Traci (Mark) Forsey, Nibley, UT; Dede (Doug) Gardner, Deweyville, UT; 24 grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren, brothers, Doyle (Ilene) Wharton, Darrel (Claudine) Wharton; sisters, Helen Moser, Ethelene Worton, Erma (Clyde) Ashcroft, Wanda King and Lucille Westerberg. She was preceded in death by her first husband R. Owen Nielsen; two sons, Wesley Owen and Scott Reed Nielsen and her parents.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Ali Ben Jacob and his staff, Dr. Chad L. Merrell and his staff, Bear River Valley Hospital and IHC Hospice employees for the extra-ordinary care and concern that they have shown for Aleta and our family over the last several years.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 8, 2010 11 a.m. at the Deweyville Ward LDS Chapel 10750 North Highway 38 Deweyville. Friends may call Thursday October , 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Friday from 9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral services. Interment will follow in the Portage Cemetery. The family suggest contributions be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund.
