Services Tuesday For Mrs. Sylvia Sparks
Funeral services for Mrs. Sylvia Miers Sparks, 73, who died Friday at the Oneida Hospital after a long illness, were held Tuesday at the Malad Second ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Miax King officiating.
Family prayer at the home was offered by J. Guy Gleed; invocation, Thomas D. Evans; benediction, William O. Howard. Speakers were Ben W. Call, who gave the obituary; President Moyle Facer, President S. L. Smith and Bishop King. Musical selections consisted of prelude and postlude, Myra Jean John; vocal solo, Eldon Corbridge; vocal duet, Wanda Napier and Faye Hansen.
Concluding rites were at the Ogden Cemetery where Ralford G. Benson offered the dedicatory prayer. Flowers were carried by members of the Second Ward Relief Society, Relief Society Stake Board and the Ladies Literary Club.
Casket bearers were President Merlin Bastian, J. Guy Gleed, Glen Morris, Jesse Hughes, Myron Sorensen and Ralph Harding with honorary bearers being Darrell Swartz, Jesse Dredge, Eldon Corbridge, Gordon Crowther, Myron Jones, Jr., Howard Neal, H. Ward Thomas.
Services were under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sparks was born Jan. 31, 1890 at Ogden, Utah, a daughter of William H. and Marn Emmerstein Miers.
She was married to Fredrich Albert Sparks Nov. 17, 1906 at Ogden. The marriage was solemnized March 3, 1921 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
Mr. Sparks died Feb. 26, 1947.
Mrs. Sparks received her education in Ogden schools and was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as a member of the Primary Stake Board and second counselor of the Relief Society Stake Board.
She was Oneida County Cancer Society chairman for 11 years and a member of the Ladies Literary Club.
Prior to coming to Malad, where they operated the Malad Steam Laundry, Mr. and Mrs. Sparks lived at Rexburg, Ogden and Salt Lake City.
Survivors include our daughters, Mrs. Alice S. McKay, Malad; Mrs. Alden (Dorothy) Blaisdell, Fairfield, Calif.; Mrs. Frank (Maxine) Barberis, Calistoga, Calif.; Mrs. Ray (Lois) Witherspoon, Plattsville, Colo.; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Edwards and Mrs. Kate Jackson, both of California.
