SPENCER, JOSEPH WALTER, May 24, 1921 – April 30, 2004

Joseph Walter Spencer, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Littleton, Colorado, on April 30, 2004 with family at his side. Spencer was born May 24, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was raised in Malad. As a WWII Navy Veteran, he graduated from Brigham Young University and received his PhD in physics from Penn State. After 32 years, he retired from Chevron Oil and Chief Geophysicist.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he faithfully served as a missionary, Bishop, Counselor and Sealer in the Denver Temple, and numerous other callings.

He had a kind and gentle nature and was known as a man of integrity and principle.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gloria; children: Joseph Jr. (Beverly), Rinda (Greg) Butler and David (Kathy), all of Colorado; Donna (Seth) Bingham of New Mexico; Becky (Jack) Rolfson, Robert (Sheri) and James (Shauna) of Utah; 32 great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Loren (Lawana), Virginia; and Ralph (Maxine) of Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Walter and Amelia Whitehead Spencer; siblings: Emma Ward, Hazel Hakes, Melvin, Carla and Raymond; granddaughter, Angela Erickson.

Funeral services will be held May 6 in Littleton, Colorado. Graveside services will be in Malad, Idaho on May 8.
