LaVern M. Smith, 64, dies Wednesday

LaVern Middleton Smith, age 64, died Wednesday, Oct. 29 in the Oneida County Hospital of heart failure.

He was born March 6, 1911, at Cherry Creek, Oneida County a son of Thomas Alfred and Eliza Middleton Smith.

Mr. Smith married Rosella Maud John November 21, 1930 in the Logan LDS Temple.

He was a dairyman and farmer, and had resided in Exeter, Calif., and Portage, Utah. He was a graduate of Malad High School; was an active member of the LDS Church and served in the Pleasantview bishopric; was superintendent of YMMIA; superintendent of Sunday school; home teacher, magazine representative; was a High Priest; worked in 4-H; was 1967 Grassman Of The Year in Southeastern Idaho.

Survivors include his wife, Pleasantview; three sons and one daughter; Delwyn John Smith, Pocatello; L. Jack Smith, Ogden; Sheldon John Smith, Malad; Mrs. Darrald (Donna Jean) Salvesen, Idaho Falls. 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; four brothers and one sister; Leon Smith, Camarillo, Calif., Charlie Smith, Woodland, Calif., Marion Smith, San Lorenzo, Calif., Veon Smith, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Mary Williams Gleed, Malad.

Funeral service will be Saturday at noon in the Pleasantview LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Merlin Bastian officiating. Friends may call Benson Funeral Home, Malad, Friday evening and Saturday prior to service. Burial in the Pleasantview Cemetery.
