Laura Smith dies Feb. 4th

Katie Laura McIntosh Smith, 85, Holbrook, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Malad Nursing Home.

She was born May 30, 1895, in Alabama to Erwin Tate and Mary Elizabeth Martin McIntosh.

She married Willard R. Smith Jr. Dec. 23, 1914, in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Holbrook since 1914, where they were ranchers and raised quarter horses. Mr. Smith died March 29, 1976.

Mrs. Smith was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served on the Primary stake board, was a Relief Society president, and was a teacher in many church organizations.

She was an active member of Fine Arts club of Malad.

Survivors include two sons, Willard Mack Smith, Ogden, Utah; and Reed M. Smith, Malad; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Marjorie) Steed, Stone; Mrs. DeLome (Verona) Arbon, San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Merrill (Imogene) Durfee, Fullerton, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one brother and three sisters, Willard McIntosh, Ellen Holmes, and Mildred Jensen, all of Mobile, Ala., and Della Britt, Atlanta, Ga. She was also preceded in death by two sons, LaMoyne and Richard A. Smith.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 7, in the Second Ward Chapel with Bishop Bert Smith officiating.

Burial was in the Holbrook Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home.
