
SMITH, ROSELLA MAUD JOHN, May 16, 1912 – March 22, 2004
Rosella Maud John Smith, 91, passed away March 22, 2004 at the Idaho Falls Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was born May 16, 1912 in Portage, Utah, to Thomas Parley John and Idaho M. Gardner John. She was raised in Portage and graduated from Bear River high School in Tremonton, Utah.
She married LaVern Middleton Smith on November 21, 1930 in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in California for two years then moved back to Pleasantview, Idaho where they farmed and operated a dairy farm. Her husband passed away in 19975. She has lived in Idaho Falls the past two years to be near her daughter, Donna.
She has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of her life, serving in all of the auxiliary organizations in her ward and stake.
She was chosen Farm Wife for the Oneida County Farm Bureau and also was runner-up in the district. She worked as a secretary for the Farm Bureau for ten years. She enjoyed judging the County Fairs for Southeastern Idaho.
She loved to quilt and crochet and taught the art to many of her family. She is best known throughout the area for her beautiful poetry. She has written poems and tributes for many occasions and for her own enjoyment. She loved to travel with her sister Ethel and they visited other places of interest in Europe.
She is survived by four children: one daughter, Donna Jean Salvesen (Darrald, deceased), of Idaho Falls; three sons: Delwyn (Marylyn) of Pocatello; Jack (Janice) of Ogden; Sheldon (Kenna) of Malad, now serving a mission at Martins Cove in Wyoming; 15 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren; one brother, DeMour John of Caldwell, Idaho; one sister, Ethel Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and five sisters; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter and one son-in-law.
Funeral services were held March 27 at the 2nd/5th Ward building in Malad. Burial was in the Pleasantview Cemetery.
