Services for Mrs. Martha Shipley at Chesterfield

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Chesterfield LDS Ward Chapel for Mrs. Martha Ward Shipley, age 84, who died Sunday in Oneida County Nursing Home.

Bishop Roy F. Hatch officiated. Family prayer was offered by Wilder Hatch; the invocation, by Lawrence Holbrook, and the benediction, by Bishop Hatch. Speakers were Bishop Frank Whitworth, Wayne Hatch, and Agatha hatch, who gave a life sketch. Wayne and Marcelle Hatch presented a vocal duet and the Chesterfield Relief Society Singing Mothers, a vocal selection, Lucile Redford was choir director and Jolene Hatch, accompanist, and also played prelude and postlude music.

G. W. (Bill) Bower offered the dedicatory prayer at Chesterfield Cemetery. Flowers were carried by members of the Chesterfield Relief Society, Shara Hebdon, president. Casket bearers were Brent Shipley, Bruce Shipley, Dean Shipley, Jay Shipley, Rodney Shipley and Norme Marcum.

Interment was directed by Benson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shipley was born Sept. 3, 1887, at Iona, Bonneville County, a daughter of George P. and Christine Bindrup Ward.

She married Carleon E. Shipley Aug. 8, 1908, in the Logan LDS Temple. Mr. Shipley died June 20, 1952.

Mrs. Shipley received her education in the Iona schools; homesteaded in the Chesterfield area near Bancroft and lived there until 1952. Being an active member of the LDS Church, she was Relief Society work director and a visiting teacher.

Survivors include three sons, Roy L. Shipley, Malad City; Mark A. Shipley, Prospect, Ore., and Mike G. Shipley, Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and one brother, John O. Ward, San Diego, Calif.
