Services Held For Melvin L. Schwartz

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Ogden Fourth Ward LDS Chapel for Melvin Leo Schwartz, 47, former Malad man, who died Saturday at 3:20 p.m. of pneumonia in an Ogden hospital.

Interment was at the Ogden City Cemetery.

Mr. Schwartz was born June 18, 1919 in Daniels, Oneida Co., a son of William and Olga Serem Schwartz.

Mr. Schwartz was a budget analyst at Hill Air Force Base at the time of his death.

He married Emma Martin on June 24, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Schwartz was a member of the LDS Church and served on the High Council of the Ogden Stake.

He served as a stake missionary, superintendent of the YMMIA, ward clerk, counselor to the bishop and bishop of the Ogden Fourth Ward for nine years. He was released from the latter position in September.

Mr. Schwartz was a former member of the Ogden Junior Chamber of commerce and former president of the Dee School Parent-Teachers Association.

Surviving are his wife, two sons and one daughter. Children include Melvin James, Robert Martin and Miss Elaine Schwartz, all of Ogden. Parents surviving are Mr. and Mrs. William Schwartz of Malad.

Two brothers and two sisters survive. They are Ivan W. Schwartz, Rt. 1, Malad; Dale M. Schwartz, Malad; Mrs. Sylvera B. (Hilda) John, Malad; Mrs. Reed T. (Donna) Bloxham, Idaho Falls.
