OLGA SCHWARTZ

MALAD–Olga Elisa Serem Schwartz, 85, Malad, died Saturday at the Oneida County Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 17, 1898, in Switzerland and moved to the U.S. when she was 16 due to the family’s conversion to the LDS faith. Her family settled in Logan, Utah, and her father was a painter.

She married William Schwartz on March 27, 1918, at the Logan LDS Temple. After their marriage they moved to the Daniels area, near Malad, where they purchased a farm.

In 1945, they moved to Malad where she since lived. Mrs. Schwartz was a member of the LDS Church and had served in the Primary presidency, was a Relief Society visiting teacher and had also taught in Sunday school. She was a member of the American Legion War Mothers and had also been president of the Malad Garden Club.

Survivors include her husband, Malad; a son, Dale Max Schwartz, Malad; two daughters, Mrs. Sylvera (Hilda) John, Malad, and Mrs. Reed (Donna Elisa) Bloxham, Idaho Falls; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and two sons.

Funeral services will be noon Tuesday at the Malad LDS Fourth Ward chapel with Bishop Clarence Kent officiating. Friends may call at Benson-Horsley Funeral Home today from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad City cemetery.
