Mrs. Rice killed by lightning Saturday

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Malad Fourth Ward LDS Chapel for Mrs. Annie Anderson Rice, 96, who died Saturday [August 3, 1968] when struck by lightning during a fishing trip to Weston Reservoir, southeast of Malad.

Also injured by the fatal bolt was Mrs. Rice’s daughter, Mrs. Alvous (Beulah) Cissney, Rio Linda, Calif., who with her husband and two sons accompanied Mrs. Rice on the afternoon outing. Mrs. Cissney was taken to a Tremonton hospital for treatment. Other members of the family were not hurt.

Mrs. Rice was born July 5, 1899, at Samaria, a daughter of David H. and Maria Morse Anderson. She was married to Jeremiah W. Rice, Jan. 6, 1919, at Malad. Mr. Rice died Nov. 20, 1960.

Mrs. Rice received her education in the Samaria schools and attended Brigham Young Academy at Logan, Utah. She was a member of the LDS Church, the Royal Neighbors and Friendly Club.

Survivors include three sons and six daughters, Jerry E., Sacramento, Calif.; Archie E., Torrance, Calif.; Merlyn D., Inglewood, Calif.; Mrs. Ted R. (Blanche) Reed, Palisades; Mrs. Jim (Marie) Holcomb, Newhall, Calif.; Mrs. Alvous (Beulah) Cissney, Rio Linda, Calif.; Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) Batty, Wawawai, Wash.; Mrs. Reed (Jadine) Henderson, Preston, and Mrs. Douglas (Mary Lou) Anderson, Lancaster, Calif.; 31 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven brothers and three sisters, David M., Ogden, Utah; Arch M., Mesa, Arizona; Willard M., Bountiful, Utah; Avard M., Orem, Utah; Morse M., Sunnyvale, Calif.; Richard M., Leland M., Mrs. Al (Marie) Lee and Mrs. Loren (Hannah) Harris, all of Provo, Utah; Mrs. Dwight (Grace) Kykendall, Springville, Ut.

Funeral services held Wednesday for Mrs. Rice

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 7th, at the Malad LDS Fourth Ward Chapel for Mrs. Annie Anderson Rice, age 69, who was killed by lightning at Weston Reservoir, August 3rd [1968].

Bishop Earl Gillies officiated at the services with Richard M. Anderson offering family prayer at the Funeral Home.

At the chapel, prelude and postlude music were by Mrs. Myra ean John with Jenkin L. Palmer and Helen E. Jones singing solos. Bishop Gillies gave the obituary and the speakers were Bishop John Roderick and Archie M. Anderson. Invocation was offered by Jonah M. Evans and the benediction by N. A. Waldron.

Concluding rites were at the Malad City Cemetery with David M. Anderson offering the dedicatory prayer.

Flowers were carried by the Fourth Ward Relief Society, members of the Royal Neighbors and Friendly Club.

Casket bearers were Ted Reed, Reed Henderson, Kenneth Batty, Al Cissney, Jim Holcomb and Ronald Stoltenberg.
