American Falls – Edison “Ed” J. Evans, 63, of American Fall, died Tuesday, March 22, 1994, at his home following a long battle with lung cancer.

He was born May 20, 1930, in Malad, a son of Jonah Morse and Thelma Jones Evans. He was reared and educated in Malad, and was a graduate of Malad High School, class of 1948. As a young man he had worked on the family farm and for Dives Furniture Co.

He married Thelma Ann Hawkins May 6, 1950, in Malad. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple January 18, 1994.

In 1951 he began employment with Standard Oil Co. in Ogden, Utah, and in 1954 became the company’s first cosignee when he took over operation of a station in Twin Falls. He and his family moved to American Falls in 1965 when he bought the Hillcrest Truck Stop. In 1977 he opened The Parts House, and in 1985 was hired to manage the NAPA Auto Parts Store, where he had since been employed.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Ann Evans, of American Falls; two sons, Floyd and wife, Jo Evans, and Tim Evans, both of American Falls; one daughter and her husband, Julia Ann and Larry Zissi of Salt Lake City, Utah; seven grandchildren, Christopher Evans of Pocatello, Nick and Stacey Evans of American Falls, Stephanie, Glen, Greg and Stacia Zissi, all of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Jayne E Price of Malad, and Mrs Perry (Illa Dell) Byrd of Ogden, Utah; and three brothers and their wives, Rex and Anna Mae Evans of Portland, Ore.; Robert J. and Beth Evans of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Melvin J. and Sharon Evans of Ketchum, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and a grandson, Tony Evans.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25, 1994, at 10 a.m. in the American Falls LDS Third Ward Chapel, 650 Pocatello Ave., with Bishop Ronald Nelson officiating. Friends may call at Davis Mortuary, 170 Idaho St., American Falls, this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. There will then be visitation at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. with burial in the Malad City Cemetery at 3 p.m.
