Melvin Price Dies Of Heart Ailment

Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) in the Malad LDS Stake building for Melvin J. Price, 33, who died Monday at the Oneida Hospital of a heart ailment.

Bishop’s Counselor Gordon Crowther of the Malad 2nd Ward is conducting the services.

Mr. Price was born April 1, 1924, in Malad, a son of Josiah and Beatrice Jones Price. He was reared and educated in Malad and graduated from Malad high. He entered the U.S. Army in June, 1945, and received basic training at Camp Hood, Texas. He landed in Europe in January of 1945 during the disastrous Battle of the Belgian Bulge. During this operation he suffered frozen feet and was sent to a U.S. hospital in England. After his release from the hospital he instructed German workers in the 696th Quartermaster Salvage Company until he returned to the United States and was discharged in June, 1946. He was entitled to wear the European Theatre Ribbon with one battle star, the Purple Heart, Expert Infantryman Badge and Good Conduct medal. He had engaged in farming here since his discharge from the Army.

Mr. Price was an Elder in the LDS Church.

On July 17, 1946, he married Arlene Atkinson in the Logan LDS Temple.

Surviving are his widow, two sons and three daughters, Ilene, Melva Jean, Melvin Jimmy, Marilyn Cindy and Ferrel Charles Price, and his parents of Malad; six brothers and four sisters:

Mrs. Ross (Pearl) Kelly, Urbana, Ill.; Earl L. Price, Downey, Idaho; Mrs. LeRoy (Merle) Goucher, Ogden; Ralph D. Price, L. Dale Price, Marion Price, Stanley J. Price and Ronald J. Price, Malad; Mrs. George (Shirley) Fry, Ogden; Mrs. Oliver (Carol) Bake, Irwin, Idaho.

Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home.
