Marie Palmer Hyde Petty, 27 August 1910
DOWNEY – Marie Palmer Hyde Petty, 86, of Downey, and wife of Cluff Petty, passed awy November 17, 1996 in the Oneida County Nursing Home.
She was born August 27, 1910 in Malad, ID, a daughter of William H. and Catherine Jones Palmer. Marie graduated from Malad High School, attended Idaho State, Albion Normal School, and later graduated from Utah State University. She then taught school for three years in Woodruff, ID.
On December 1, 1933, she married Reed T. Hyde of Downey. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Marie and Reed were blessed with two sons, Donald and Palmer Hyde. Reed was killed in February of 1945 during World War II.
Marie married Cluff Petty of Swan Lake on November 12, 1948, and they lived in Swan Lake until moving to Downey in 1967. Marie taught school in Downey for 26 years.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many leadership as well as musical positions. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Teachers.
Cluff and Marie had lived together for the past ten months in the Oneida County Nursing Home, where Cluff still resides.
Marie is survived by her husband; two sons, Donald (and Dianne) Hyde of Saratoga, CA; Palmer (and Marilyn) Hyde of Salt Lake City, UT; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest (and Shirley) Palmer of Boise; Jenkin (and Erma) Palmer of Malad; one sister, Kathryn Pearl of Long Island, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Reed T. Hyde, one brother, Wendell Palmer; three sisters, Della, Viola and Phylis, and one grandson, Scottie.
Funeral services will be held November 20, 1996 in the Downey LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Lavern Brim officiating. Burial will be in the Swan Lake Cemetery.
