Martha Elizabeth Martin Petersen returned to our Heavenly Father on August 7, 1997

She was born on February 20, 1914 to Joseph and Elizabeth Martin in Samaria, Idaho.

She attended schools in Samaria and Malad, and graduated from Malad High School and LDS Seminary.

On December 31, 1937 she married Russell Petersen in Lewiston, Utah.  The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on February 23, 1955.  Russell passed away February 6, 1984.

Martha and Russell lived in Lewiston, Utah, Samaria, Pleasantview, and Arimo, Idaho, and Dillon, Montana.

Martha was a member of the LDS Church and had held many positions over the years.  She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

She enjoyed doing genealogy, temple work, gardening – especially flowers – crocheting, embroidery, and making gifts out of beads.

Martha enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center and on their bus trips.  Although she had no children, she was like a second mother to many.  She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by a sister, Violet Lewis, and a brother, Raymond Martin; two nieces, Carolyn (Keith) Atkinson, and Thelma Dopp; a nephew, Randy (Dee) Lewis; six great-nieces; four great-nephews and 16 great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers – Joseph R. and Ralph Edward Martin; and a niece, Beth Goldstien.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 11, 1997 at noon in the Malad 2nd/5th Ward Chapel with Bishop Max Firth conducting.  Interment was in the Samaria Cemetery.
