Daniel D. Daniels dies at Pocatello
Daniel D Daniels, 71, 57 Cedar Hills Dr., a retired Pocatello businessman and political figure, died at his home early Monday after an extended illness. He was born April 19, 1909, at Malad, to David and Amelia Davis Daniels. He spent his early life in Malad, graduating from Malad High School. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California; a law degree from the University of Idaho Law School, and attended Links Business College of Boise.
He was a public accountant, insurance broker, city clerk and councilman at Ketchum, and was an agent for the U.S. Treasury Department in Idaho and California. He taught at Links Business College; the University of Idaho; and Franklin Junior High. He had also been an auditor for the Union Pacific Railroad. Politically he had been active in the Democratic party in Ketchum and Pocatello. He had served as chairman of the Bannock County Democratic Central Committee and had been a candidate for state representative several times. In 1958 he and the late Frank Sabala purchased the Yellowstone Hotel here and operated it until its sale early this year.
He was a member of St. Anthony Church, Kappa Sigma and Phi Alpha Delta Fraternities, and a former member of the BPO Elks No. 674, of the Pocatello Chamber of Commerce, and Council No. 819, Knights of Columbus.
On March 17, 1969, he married Ruth Hamilton Mann at Las Vegas, Nev.
Survivors include his widow; two step-sons, Edwin and Thomas Mann and a step-daughter, Carolina Krist, all of Pocatello; a brother, David Daniels Sr., Pocatello; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Thomas, Medford, Ore. Two sisters preceded him in death.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Church with Rev. Roger LaChance, celebrant. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Downard Chapel with Knights of Columbus of Pocatello Council 892 urged to attend. Burial will be in the Holy Cross section of Mountainview Cemetery under direction of the Downard Funeral Home.
