FINAL RITES HELD FOR FRANK METCALF
Funeral services for Frank Metcalf, 77, who died Feb. 15, 1950 at Blackfoot were held at the Malad First Ward Monday afternoon under the direction of James Vaughan, counselor to Bishop D. Dredge Thomas.
Prelude and postlude were played by Mrs. Joe Laws, Jr. Prayer at the home was offered by Hugh Griffiths, the invocation by W.H. Rutter and benediction by Norman Crowther. Clyde Hanson read the obituary and talks were given by E.E. Richards and W.W. Thomas. Musical numbers consisted of a vocal duet by Mrs. Fay Hanson and Mrs. Wanda Napier accompanied by Mrs. Joe Laws; vocal solo, Jenkin Palmer accompanied by Mrs. Pauling Atkinson; vocal solo, Jenkin Jones, accompanied by Mrs. Mae Williams.
Interment was in the Malad cemetery where J. Guy Benson dedicated the grave. The Odd Fellows graveside ritualistic ceremony was conducted.
Mr. Metcalf, an Oneida County farmer, business man and civic leader, was born at Hyde Park, Utah, Nov. 16, 1872, a son of Anthony and Mary Reeder Metcalf. The family moved to Malad valley about 73 years ago, locating in the Elkhorn section. He was united in marriage to Vesta L. Drake at Malad, Feb. 19, 1898. She died in November, 1941.
Taking a prominent part in civic and fraternal affairs, Mr. Metcalf was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge, helped to organize and was one of the leaders in the Elks order while that organization maintained a lodge in Malad, was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce. He served a two year term as state representative, 1927-1928. He also served two terms as Oneida County State Senator, 1933-1937.
September 22, 1946, he was married to Mrs. Margaret Peterson who survives him. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Eliza Bradberry, Mrs. Sara Drake, Mrs. Ida Bradberry, all of Challis, Idaho.
