Services Held For Mrs. Mary Bell King
Funeral service for Mary Bell Jones King was held Sunday at 2:00 P. M. in the Malad L.D.S. Second Ward. Mrs. King died Thursday afternoon in the Oneida Hospital of a heart ailment following an illness of five months.
Bishop Myron P. Sorensen conducted the service. Prayer at the home was offered by Gordon Crowther. At the chapel, invocation was offered by President Moyle Facer and the benediction by, A. Golden Willie. Speakers were Bishop Sorensen, S. A. Hendricks and Ralph W. Harding. Mrs. Dana Benson read the obituary. Musical numbers were solos, Eldon Corbridge and Mrs. June Ward; duet, Leora Brown and Iris Barker. Prelude and postlude music was played by Mrs. Marteal Hendricks and Hope Price accompanist.
Concluding rites were at the Malad City Cemetery with Raiford Benson offering the dedicatory prayer. Burial was directed by the Benson Funeral Home. Flowers were carried by members of the Second Ward Relief Society.
Casket bearers were Leland Morgan, Keith John, Henry Gleed, Lester Peabody, Harold Thomas and Frank Thomas. Honorary bearers were Griff Davis, Kleal Price, McKinley Jenkins, D. L. Evans, Warren Jones, Lyle G. Tapper.
Mary B. King was born February 9, 1892 in Malad, a daughter of Brigham Evan and Elizabeth Ann Bywater Jones. She received her education in Malad and resided here all her life except for 12 years when she lived in Juniper and Montpelier, Idaho and Ogden, Utah.
She was married Dec. 23, 1908 to Rollins W. King. The marriage was solemnized April 23, 1941 in the Logan L. D. S. Temple. He died October 4, 1950. Also preceding her in death was a son, Dennison, who died in 1940.
Her service in the community spanned a period of 36 years, during which time she worked in many different capacities, the last of which were as office manager for Davis Water Co. and executive secretary of the State Selective Service Local Board No. 36. She recently received a certificate of appreciation for her last 15 years of loyal and faithful service in the administration of the Selective Service System. Her work in this capacity also covered the years before and during World War II when it was not under Civil Service.
Fifty-four continuous years of her life were devoted to active L.D. S. Church work which included both ward and stake positions in the Primary, Relief Society, Sunday School, Genealogy and Mutual Improvement Associations. The last seven years she was stake M.I. A. attendance secretary. She had been affiliated with the Daughters of Idaho Pioneers and was the first president of the Malad City Garden Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Betty) Deschamps, Billings, Montana; and Mrs. Elmer B. (DePhane) Taylor, Malad; four grandchildren; Diane Descamps, BYU, Provo; Janeece Taylor Hess, Logan; Marlys and Shaundel Taylor, Malad; two brothers, James B. and B.B. Jones, both of Malad, and one sister, Mrs. Robert (Beth) Stallman, Los Angeles, Calif.
