Violet May Crites Evans

EVANS, VIOLET MAY CRITES, June 11, 1909 – August 1, 1983

Violet May Crites Evans, 74, Malad, died Monday in Silverton, Oregon. She was born June 11, 1909 in Napnee, Nebraska to Seth Leroy and Bertha Hannah Kehl Crites. As a child her family moved to Woodburn, Oregon, where she grew up and received her education. She moved to Malad in 1947 where she helped build the Wheel Inn Café, just north of town. She was one of the owners and operators of the café for three years.

She married David E. Evans February 14, 1952 in Evanston, Wyoming. He died Nov. 8, 1970. For many years she worked with her husband on the farm located north of Malad.

Survivors include a son, Vernon, Salem, OR; a brother Ralph Crites, Silverton, OR; and a sister Alyce Graves, Silverton, OR. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be Thursday at the Benson Horsley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
