
EVANS, EUGENE HOMER, (?) – December 16, 1988
Eugene Homer Evans, a longtime resident and businessman in Pocatello, died December 16, 1909 in a local rest home following an illness. He was born at Malad to Henry William and Mary Jane Richard Evans. He attended schools there before moving to Fort Hall when he was 16 years old.
During World War I he served with the Army in Europe. After his discharge he attended Utah State University.
On October 28, 1922 he married Sue Harris at Butte, Montana. They made their home in Pocatello, where Mr. Evans worked as a car salesman and later sales manager for the Jesse M. Chase Ford dealership. He also operated dealerships of his own at different times.
He managed the Elks and Shrine clubs in Pocatello and the Officers’ Club at the Pocatello Air Base during World War II. He was employed with Manning Funeral Chapel for several years.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a 50 year member of Elks Club, BPOE, American Legion Post No. 4 and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Evans enjoyed hunting, fishing and his pet dog Snoopy.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; a niece and her husband, Ardath and Glen McKellar, Idaho Falls; a great niece, Mrs. Judy Rogers, Pocatello; and a nephew and his wife, Robert and Bernell Evans, Blackfoot. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, H.E. “Ray” and William Evans, and a sister, Elizabeth.
Graveside services will be Monday at Restlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Clemons of the Episcopal Parish, Holy Trinity Church officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the combined veteran’s groups of American Legion Post No. 4, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Freedom Birds.
