Myron Jones Jr.

Myron Jones Jr., husband of Edith Nola Christensen Jones, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Malad, Idaho on Wednesday September 7, 2016 at the age of 91 after a prolonged five month effort to recover from a complex leg fracture sustained while working in the garden. Nola and Myron shared 68 years of marriage and a wonderful life together. As the beloved father of eight, grandfather of 29 and great-grandfather of 34, Myron worked hard for his family and enjoyed them greatly. He was always at the ready to saddle horses for a trail ride, or harness them to pull his Amish buggy, wagon, or winter sleigh- complete with the harness bells.

Myron was born July 16, 1925 in Malad Idaho to Myron Jones Sr. and Lola House Barnett Jones. He enjoyed working hard and loved his church, community, state and country. He was primarily a farmer and rancher. He also served as Oneida County Farm Bureau president, as a school-board member, and for 12 years in the Idaho House of Representatives. In the course of his life, he also ran a small business in Malad and developed property on the Malad divide.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Myron served in many ways, helping other members and neighbors. He especially enjoyed his service as Bishop of the Malad First Ward, as an ordinance worker in the Brigham and Logan temples, and as a missionary in the Malad Stake and in Nauvoo, Illinois. In Nauvoo, he was responsible for taking care of the draft horses used to pull visitor wagons through the historic city of Nauvoo. He also drove the wagons and acted as a guide, providing information about the history of the city and its residents before the pioneer exodus to the Salt Lake Valley.

Myron is survived by his wife Nola and his children; Camille (Boyd) Baker, Marie (Wes) Larson, Christie (Larry) Oja, Ann (Tom) Knighton, Kathryn (Ernest) Fossum, Don (Annette) Jones and Jedd (Kim) Jones, and sister, Carrie (Clair) Robinson. He was preceded in death by his son Paul, sisters Lola Jean and Josephine, his brother Grant and his parents, Lola and Myron Jones Sr.

Myron’s funeral will be held on Monday, September 12 at 11:00 A.M. at the Malad L.D.S. Third Ward Chapel (400 North 200 West). Friends and neighbors may join the family prior to the funeral to pay respects and express condolences at a viewing at the Horsley Funeral Home in Malad (132 West 300 North) from 7:00pm to 8:00pm on Sunday September 11 or 9:30am to 10:30am on Monday before the funeral. The dedication of the grave will immediately follow the funeral, at the Malad City Cemetery.
