Mervin W. Jones

Mervin W. Jones 83 passed away September 1, 2001 surrounded by his loving family from complications due to surgery. He was born July 31, 1918 in Malad. Idaho to William R. and Agnes DeGooyer Jones. He married Florence Lavon Wright in the Salt Lake Temple on April 22, 1943.
He graduated from South High School in 1935 and the U of U in 1940 with high honors from Phi Kappa Phi and the National Honor Society.
Mervin was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving faithfully in many leadership positions including an LDS mission in the Northern States 1941 to 1 943.
He served in the Army during World War II. After the war, he worked as a partner in his CPA firm Richmond & Jones. He later worked as a controller for Oscar E. Chytraus Company. He was president of the Utah Association of CPAs and Son’s of the Utah Pioneers. He was a life member of the UACPA.
The times he enjoyed most were those spent with his family and friends, golfing, fishing, bowling and dancing.
Mervin is survived by his wife, Lavon with whom he shared 58 wonderful years; children: Jolene (Ric) Hansen, Debbie (Bruce) Alexander, Mardene (Jeff) Smith, Ron (Janet) Jones, Lynette (Richard) Parkin, James Harrison; 24 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Thomas (Jan) Jones, William (Marilyn) Jones, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by twin sons Wayne and Blaine; son Kent; and daughter Janice Harrison.
Funeral services will be held Thursday September 6, 2001, 12 noon at the Parleys 5th ward chapel 2615 E. Stringham Avenue (2200 S.J. Friends may visit at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. or one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
