Michael Douglas Payton, Sr.

Michael Douglas Payton, Sr. passed away July 7, 2017, after a courageous battle with an extended illness. Mike was born December 31, 1947, in Ogden, Utah, a son to Jack and Marvilla Payton. He married Joyce Ann Walker and they had seven children. They were later divorced. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1965 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Malad, Idaho. Mike was a very loving and giving person. He was the one everyone could count on to help them out in their time of need and he never turned his back on anybody. His passion was going to yard sales, swap meets and storage auctions. He spent several years traveling around in his motorhome selling off his trinkets and collections before finally settling in Malad. Mike is survived by his siblings, Karma (Gene) Evenson; Jack David Payton, Jr. (Darlene); and Peggy Conger; his children, Michael Douglas Sr.; Shane; Bonnie and Cindy Payton; seventeen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his ex-wife, his parents, his brothers, LaMar and Gerald Payton, his sons Jerry, Bobby and Steven Payton. Dad, we want you to know that we will love and miss you always, but the legacy of your love lives on through us and each of your amazing grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We’ll treasure out memories always. Love – your kids. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the Presbyterian Church in Malad with a graveside service following at the Malad City Cemetery where Military Rites will be accorded.
