Downey….Margaret Evans Boam, 88, longtime Downey resident and wife of the late T. Gail Boam, passed away on October 8, 2008 in a Twin Falls Care Center. She was born January 24, 1920, the second of six children born to John “Jack” A. and Catherine “Katie” Hill Evans. She grew up and was educated in Malad, where her parents operated a ranch. She was a graduate of Malad High School class of 1938. While in high school she was involved in the Glee Club, and was a member of a sextet that won 1st place in a district music competition. This launched her love for singing, which remained with her through her life, even into her last years. Margaret attended Utah State University, and it was during this time that she met and married T. Gail Boam on November 6, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They moved to Downey, where they lived in a fixer upper on the old Nelson place. Margaret and Gail lived their entire married lives in Downey. She sang with Muriel Wilding and Mary Christensen in a group called the 3″Ms. They provided 50 years of enjoyment to those listening to their beautiful voices at funerals, weddings, parites, picnics and nursing homes. This was a great source of joy to her throughout her adult life. She was also a charter member of the famous Downey Madrigal Choir. Margaret gave birth to one child, Linda Marie, on August 21, 1941. Although born with Cerebral Palsy, Linda was the joy and delight of Margaret and Gail. Margaret was a member of the Malad United Presbyterian Church, where she served in many capacities through the years. Her church affiliation was a great love for her. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Marie of Boise and a brother; John Earl Evans of Richland WA. as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband T. Gail Boam (May 20, 1999). a sister; Katie Limb and brothers; Lyle B. Evans; Ray Evans; and Rayma Zagarella. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 13, 2008 at 12 noon in Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home 570 N. Meadowview Dr. in Arimo. Friends may visit with the Boam family on Monday prior to servies from 10:30-11:30 am. Burial will follow in the Downey City Cemetery.
