John George Ware

John George Ware, 77 passed away on July 10, 2015 at his home in Rosemead, California. John was born to Alton O. Ware and Emma Evans Ware on July 31, 1937 in Downey, Idaho. John grew up on the family farm west of Downey, where he spent many hours farming and working with animals which he truly loved. He had a great passion for horses and it wasn’t, unusual to see him riding through the fields without a saddle and sometimes without a bridle. Hard work and honesty was instilled in John in his youth and followed him throughout his life. John attended grade school as well as high school in Downey where he developed friendships with all those who attended with him. During his school years the family moved to Downey and purchased a home within a block of the elementary and high school. John had a great sense of humor, although he lived a block from the high school his motto was “why walk when you can ride.” One morning he went out to his old Ford coupe only to find the battery dead, so he gathered up a few of the neighbor friends, “most of them girls” for a push start. John was active in sports and he loved music. He graduated from Downey High School in May 1955. After high school John moved to Southern California to seek a profession. He received employment with Greyhound bus lines in Los Angeles as an apprentice diesel mechanic. After two years of schooling and on the job training John became a journeyman diesel mechanic thru the Machinist Union. He had a passion for what he did and it showed in the excellent work he performed. He was in big demand by other charter bus business’ for maintenance and repairs. After 20 yrs. at the age of 39, he retired from Greyhound to start his own charter bus business called, A Ware Charter Inc. John married Ofelia Hidalgo on June 14, 1966 in Los Angeles Ca. they were happily married for 49 years. They enjoyed traveling, vacationing and the great outdoors along with the many trips back home to Idaho. They were the parents of daughters Arlene Rios and Debra Rios and son John R. Ware. John was a member of, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. John is survived by his wife, Ofelia Ware of Rosemead, California; daughter, Debra Rios, son John R. Ware, sister Joan (Lynn) Morrison of McCammon and brother Paul (Dona) Ware of McCammon, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents Alton and Emma Ware, a brother Maynard, a sister Patricia Ware and daughter Arleen Rios. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the Downey City Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday morning from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the Downey LDS 2nd Ward Building prior to the Graveside.
