Howard C. (Tuffy) Ware


LAYTON – Our beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great-grandfather, Howard C. Ware, 89, passed away on January 15, 1998 from complications of pneumonia.
He was born October 11, 1908 in Downey, Idaho, a son of George William and Pauline Owen Ware. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church.
Howard married Katie Jones on January 24, 1931 in Preston, Idaho. Four children were born to this union. He later married Phyllis Henderson Howell on November 28, 1946 in Ely, Nevada.
He owned his own grocery store in Downey, Idaho (he was a meat cutter by profession). Later he and Phyllis owned and operated, for many years, Ware’s Meat Market and Cafe on 24th Street in Ogden.
Howard had a great personality, he loved and enjoyed talking to everyone he met. He especially enjoyed watching baseball and boxing on television.
Surviving are three daughters, Mar-gene (Sam) Isom, Layton, UT; Diane (Ernie) Botti, South Ogden, UT; Connie (Darrell) Johnson, Citrus Heights, CA; a step- daughter-in-law, Nola Howell, Ogden, UT. Also surviving are his sister, Gretta Larsen, Marina, CA; brother, Gordon Ware, Seattle, WA; sister-in-law, Ruth Ware, Auburn, CA; 11 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, his son, H. Brent Ware, brothers Alton and George Homer Ware, his sisters, Bessie and Gertrude and two step-sons, Neil and Merrill Howell.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Leavitt’s Chapel of Flowers Mortuary, 836 36th Street with Bishop Steven Smith officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary one hour prior to services.
Interment, Downey Cemetery, Downey, Idaho at 2:00 p.m. Monday.
