Francis Mitchell Deschamps

Our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Francis Mitchell Deschamps, returned home to his heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 5, 2006, following a long and fruitful life of 105 years. At his passing he was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 4, 1901, in Malad, a son of Francis Mitchell and Hannah Evans Deschamps.

He was raised and educated in Malad, and as a young man became head of the home, following the death of his father. He, with his brothers, took over the operation of the family farm.

Mitchell married Annie Lysle Lusk on October 4, 1922 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

He farmed and ranched in the Malad and St. John area his entire life. He took veterinary training to maintain his livestock, and also assisted neighbors with theirs as well.

Lysle passed away May 17, 1987, following over 64 years of marriage.

He married Genessee Roderick in 1988 and she died the following year. In 1990, Mitchell married Olive Francis Adams, and they have enjoyed 17 years of happiness.

He had been very active through the years in various agricultural committees, including those involved with irrigation, livestock, poultry and weed abatement.

He was known in the community as “Mr. Scouter”, and had been involved with the BSA for over 88 years in some form or another. He received various scouting awards, including “extra-miler” and the Silver Beaver. Mitchell was always active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings through the years.

He is survived by his wife, Olive, of St. John; children: Yvonne (Ed) Barrus, and Lyle Marne (Geraldine) Deschamps, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Paula (terry) Morby of St. John; Stepchildren (Children of Olive), JoAnn (Woody) Christensen, and Douglas (Arlene) Adams, of Shelley, Idaho; Robert Adams of Idaho Falls; Francis (Margo) Adams of Boise; stepchildren (children of Genessee), VaLoy (John) Bybee of Salt lake City, Utah; Carol (Ernie) Maples of West Valley City, Utah; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many step- grand and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Lysle and Genessee; two sons, Francis John and Larry Lee; three brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were held December 11 at 11 a.m. in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel. Burial followed in the St. John Cemetery.
