Ruth Williams Chugg

Ruth Chugg, 94, passed away on January 3, 2015 at a local care center. Graveside services will be held on Thursday January 8, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Samaria Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 10:00-10:45 am at the Horsley Funeral Home 132 W. 300 N. Malad.

Ruth Williams Chugg was born May 21, 1920 in Samaria, Idaho, to Oliver and Esther John Williams. The family was joined by one sister, Joan Williams Potts.
Ruth attended elementary school in Samaria and High School in Malad, where she graduated in 1938. She then attended the University in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she obtained a Degree in Business. Upon returning to Malad, Ruth married Clyde Chugg on October 1, 1943. Ruth and Clyde spent their entire married life in the Malad valley where they farmed and raised cattle and horses in Pocatello Valley, Ireland Canyon and Samaria.
In May of 1947, Ruth began her long career as Secretary for the Oneida County ASCS. Every farmer and rancher from the area and surrounding conties knew her. She was highly trusted and well respected by all. Ruth retired from the ASCS on December 5, 1977.
Clyde and Ruth were unable to have children of their own, but they were second parents to Ruth’s sister Joan’s children, JoDel and Scott.
Ruth enjoyed golfing and bowling, where she was on a local city team for years. She was an excellent seamstress and a wonderful cook. Her most favorite past time was travelling to Jack Pot Nevada to play the slots. She was always lucky.
When Clyde passed away in 1995, Ruth lost her lust for life. her health slowly deteriorated, and she has been living in Downey, Idaho at assisted living for the last several years.
She finally got her wish and returned home on Sunday, January 4, 2015.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clyde Chugg, and her parents Oliver and Esther Williams.
She is survived by her sister Joan Potts; a niece, JoDel Jones; and nephews Scott Leavitt and Steve Potts; great-nieces and great-nephews; Nichole Kendrick, Allen Jones, Christopher Jones, Bridgett Leavitt, Mariann Jones, Echo Leavitt, Sean Jones, Whitney Leavitt and Britt Leavitt; brother and sister-in-laws; Duard and Tyra Chugg, Alta and Warren Burton, Mary Beth Niederhauser, Connie and Bruce Albertson, Helen Lynch, Lujean and Gene Toolson and Mark and Rex Chugg.
Burial will be in the Samaria cemetery on January 8, 2015.
