William W. “W.W.” Thomas
William W. Thomas, 95 of Bountiful and former Malad resident, died Tuesday, November 1, in Salt Lake City. He was born August 26, 1899, in Malad, a son of David Morgan and Sarah Jane Williams Thomas. He grew up and was educated in Malad, and later at the University of Idaho and Idaho State. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I.
On August 26, 1922, he was married to LaRue Ann Rose in Malad, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
He had taught school in several areas in Idaho, as well as serving as principal. A longtime resident of Malad, he had owned and operated the great Northern Hotel, and late designed and built the Hotel Thomas in 1950.
Since moving to Bountiful in 1957, he had worked as an insurance agent, a job he actively worked at until his death at age 95. He was an active member of the LDS Church and had held several leadership positions, including Bishop, and had taught the high priest group into his 95th year. He was also active in civic work throughout his life.
He is survived by two sons and their wives: Wayne W. and Geralyn Thomas of Holladay; David Kem and Susan Thomas of Murray; two daughters: Shirley and husband LeRoy Wagner of Taylorsville; Gay Ann Branson of North Salt Lake City; 23 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; one sister: Mrs. Junior (Thrya) Taylor of Ogden. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaRue, and children, DeVon (Dee) and Wanda LaRue. Funeral services were Nov. 5 in Bountiful. Burial was in the Malad.

William W. Thomas, 95, former Malad resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 1994, in the Veterans’ Hospital in Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. in the Bountiful, Utah LDS First Ward, First South and Main Street. Friends may call at the Lindquist Mortuary in Bountiful at 727 N. 400 E., on Friday, Nov. 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, Malad. A complete obituary will appear in a later edition of The Idaho State Journal.
