William P. Vaughan

William P. Vaughan, 64, died Satu­rday, October 20, at Dixie Medical Center in St. George.

He was born December 6, 1925, in Stockton, California, to James G. and Mary Bess Cronkhite Vaughan. He was reared and educated in American Falls.

He married Maryellen Hess on September 15, 1947 in Elko, Nevada.

He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and was employed in radio communications for the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigations for 32 years, living in Omaha, Nebraska, Boise, Butte, Montana, Washington, D.C., Denver, Colorado; Hawaii and Salt Lake City, moving to Ivins, Utah, in 1987.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Loyal Order of Moose. He was an amateur radio enthusiast and member of the W7CKD, QCWA, ARRL, Utah and Dixie amateur radio clubs.

He is survived by his wife, Maryellen, and a son, James Vaughan, both of Ivins; three daughters, Kathryn Vaughan and Nancy Zunino, both of Salt Lake City, and Barbara Bonner, West Covina, California; two sisters, Grace Ann Tassone, Ogden, Utah and Marie Zahl, American Falls; four grandchildren and one great­grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday 11 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, American Falls with Rev. Tom Wood officiating. Military honors and burial followed at Falls View Cemetery.

Mr. Vaughan’s wife Maryellen is a daughter of LaVon Williams Erwin of Irvine, Utah and the late Edward L. Hess.

Attending the funeral from Malad were Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Hess.
