Dr. W. J. Shandro dies at Boise

Dr. William J. Shandro died Saturday at his home, 1400 Johnson Street, Boise, of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dr. Shandro practiced medicine in Malad for about one year before moving to Boise in 1978 where he established a family practice.

Memorial Mass of the Resurrection was conducted Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church by the Rev. Thomas Faucher of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Cremation followed under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Chapel, with inturnment[internment] in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

He was born Jan. 5, 1949, in Edmonton, where he was reared and educated. He received his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He married Cathy MacLellan on May 2, 1970, in Edmonton. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Adam and Timothy, and a daughter, Jamie, all of Boise; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. W.A. Shandro of Edmonton; two sisters, Margaret Churchill of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Pat Barr of Edmonton; three brothers, Peter W., Fred W. and Phillip A., all of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. J. Mushinski of Vancouver.

Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart School Benefactors Fund, Boise.
