Crowther, William Gordon – 15 Feb 1922
William Gordon Crowther, 77, passed away Monday, November 22, 1999, at his home in Malad, Idaho. He was born February 15, 1922, in Malad, a son of Edward N. and Estella E. Crowther. He was a 1940 graduate of Malad High School. After a year at Utah State Agricultural College, he served at Allied Force Headquarters in Algiers, North Africa and Casserta, Italy during World War II. Upon his return, he finished a degree in business at Utah State University, graduating in 1947.
On December 12, 1945, he married Betty Jane Hendricks in the Logan LDS Temple. Until his retirement on March 31, 1989, he distributed petroleum products throughout Malad Valley, Pocatello Valley, Stone, Holbrook, and Arbon. Gordon also served eight years on the Malad City Council, served on the Hospital Board; and sang in both the Malad Valley Community Choir and his Ward Choir. During this same time, he served as State Mutual Superintendent, a member of the Malad Stake High Council, Stake Clerk, High Priests Group Leader, Boy Scout Committee Chairman, and as Bishop of the Malad Second Ward for nine years.
Since retirement, he and his wife have served temple missions in Guatemala City and in Washington D.C. Most recently they served in the Logan Temple. Gordon loved his family, flying, restoring buggies, and his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty of Malad; three children: Jan (Al) Myers of Ogden, Utah; Robert Gordon (Anne) Crowther of Malad; Becky (Keith) Hiatt of Greensboro, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; three sisters; Valene Turner of Logan, Utah; Leonore Bassett of Shafter, California; ShaRon Jones of Emmett, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Margaret Harris and Lucille Howes; two brothers; Neal Crowther and Berthel Crowther; three infant children, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 1999, at the Malad Stake Center at 12 noon. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
