Wayne E. Secrist

Tremonton – Wayne E. Secrist, 86, our precious husband, brother, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully November 3, 2001, at his home in Tremonton, Utah, surrounded by his large, loving family. Wayne was born the fifth of ten children, March 8, 1915, in Farmington, Utah, to Henry and Charlotte Udy Secrist.
He was reared and educated in Farmington, Utah, and left home at an early age to work for the Potters in West Fielding, Utah. It was there that he met LaPriel Bailey, daughter of Willard and Annie Roderick were married May 1, 1940, and began their life together in Skull Valley, Utah, working for “Deseret Livestock Company”. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
Wayne and LaPriel with their growing family moved several times during the war years. Shortly after the end of World War II, Wayne and LaPriel moved their family back to Fielding, Utah, where Wayne began a long career in farming and ranching. They lived in Fielding for 16 years. Wayne continued to successfully farm and “buy and sell” cattle.
In 1963, the family moved to Plymouth, Utah, where Wayne continued to expand his cattle buying business. Wayne and LaPriel continued ranching until 1997, when they retired and moved to Tremonton, Utah, where they resided at Wayne’s passing.
Wayne had many friends, and made friends easily wherever he went. He loved horses and received great joy from riding and training “top-notch” cow horses. He took immense pride in caring for and raising quality cattle and few could discern more about them than Wayne.
Wayne’s greatest success was his devotion to his family. He was an inspiration to and deeply loved by all of them. He taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard work, and instilled confidence and pride for a “job well done.” He made education a high priority, and worked hard to ensure that all of his children had opportunities for education. There was nothing he loved more than to have his entire family home for “Sunday Dinner at Grandpa and Grandma’s House.” Wayne loved nature and the outdoors, always had a beautiful yard, and loved to plant and grow many flowers.
Surviving are LaPriel, his wife of 61 years; sister, Ruth Bone, Kaysville, UT; children, Jerry (Tamara), Fort St. John, B.C., Canada, Glen (Marilyn), Boise, ID, Linda Secrist, Kathleen Goodliffe, Salt Lake City, UT, Annette (Ken) Adams, Tremonton, Joan (Scott), Sandberg, St. George, UT; 25 grand-children; and 29 great-grandchildren.
