Former Maladian Dies In Oregon
Funeral services were held at Baker Oregon, Wednesday for Wallace D. Allen, age 54, who was found dead in his pickup near a mine Monday (9 Aug 1965) about noon. Death was caused by carbon monoxide in what Baker County officers designated an apparent suicide.

The following exerpts from a news article was furnished. The Enterprise by the Baker Democrat Herald in a phone conversation:
“The extensive search for a 54-year-old Baker man missing since Friday ended today (Monday) when his vehicle was found near Stuff mine in the Washington Gulch area.”
“Sheriff Delmar E. Dixon declined to comment on whether Wallace Dillard Allen, an employee at the Federal Aviation Agency at Baker, had been located at the site of his vehicle. Sheriff’s deputies, state police, and the county medical examiner left for the scene this afternoon.”
“Four planes and more than 200 men in vehicles began a systematic search of Baker County early this morning (Monday). The search was called off by the sheriff after the vehicle was found in Washington Gulch at noon.”
Mr. Allen lived in Malad for about 12 years, leaving for Baker around 1958. He worked for the FAA at Malad, and was active in the Masonic Lodge and Presbyterian Church here.
Mr. Allen was born Feb. 12, 1911, at Altoona, Kansas. He is survived by his widow, Dorothy Merle Allen; two daughters, Mrs. Farrell (Barbara) Hill, Las Vegas, Nevada; Mrs. Linda Starry, Portland, Oregon; several grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Bessie Ellen Allen, Belgrade, Mont; two sisters Mrs. Evelyn Vickery, Belgrade; Mrs. Denzel Thompson, Dos Palos, Calif.; Interment was at Baker.
