Violet Martin Lewis

LEWIS, VIOLET, June 7, 1918 – February 13, 2006

Violet Martin Lewis, 87, passed away February 13, 2006 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Keith and Carolyn Atkinson in Pleasantview.

Violet was born in Samaria, Idaho on June 7, 1918, the youngest child of Joseph Martin and Elizabeth Richards martin. She lived and attended school in Samaria.

She married Faral Max Dopp in 1937. To this union were born three daughters; Thelma, Elizabeth and Carolyn. They were later divorced. On July 21, 1952, Violet married Daniel Lewis in Elko, Nevada, and they were blessed with a baby boy, Randy.

She lived in Samaria, Malad, Lewiston and ogden, Utah. Upon arrival back in Malad, she held various jobs, but was best known as a waitress at the Dude Ranch Café, where she waited tables for 32 years.

She enjoyed embroidering and had made many pillowcases, tablecloths and dish towels for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing “search a word” puzzle books, painting and coloring. She loved spending time with her family, going for rides and watching “The Price Is Right”, “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”. Violet loved music, especially the “Lawrence Welk Show.” She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by two daughters: Thelma Dopp and Carolyn (Keith) Atkinson of Malad; a son, Randy (DeEsta) Lewis of Durango, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Goldstein; a sister, Martha Paterson; brothers, Joe, Ralph and Raymond Martin; and husband, Daniel Lewis.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 18 at 12 noon in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel. Burial was in the Samaria Cemetery.
